Fundraising Cook Book Comments Off
A great fundraising idea for your school, club or church is to organise a recipe book. Ask parents, teachers, members etc to submit a receipe (with an image if possible). To save on time it would be ideal if recipes were submitted by email.
For your recipe book to be successful it needs to be a great cookbook, so be sure you are confident in the recipes before the book goes on sale.
To make the cookbook more exciting you could ask the children to write a letter to their favourite celebrity asking them to send them their favourite recipe. My school did this back in the 80s and I wrote to Nick Berry (Wicksy in Eastenders and Hartbeat). He sent me his recipe for “Canadian Hotpot” with a signed photograph. I was absolutely estactic that he’d taken the time to write back to me. As it was a long time ago I can’t really remember who my classmates wrote to. All I remember is that the book was a success and helped raise money for the school.
Once your book is ready you then need to think of how to sell your book. You could have it formally printed into a book and hopefully someone has a contact with a local publisher or printing company to get you a good price. Or you could make it into an e-book or PDF and sell it on your website. If your school or club doesn’t have a website, ask around, there’s bound to be someone technical that can help set up domain name and website for your cook book.*
Advertise your book on your website with a link where people can click to download it. It is extremely cheap to offer the book this way, and will save on printing costs.
To help promote the cookbook on your website you can have the option for people to tell their friends about the book by placing a “share this button” next to the link. People can then tweet and share on facebook or email to their friends and family. It really is a great idea and if planned well will be a great fundraiser.
*If you’d like to set up a fundraising cookbook and need help with a website to sell your cookbook then the PTAShop can help you with this. The PTA Shop will set this up for you at a very low cost. For further information please email joanne@ptashop.co.uk

The Cook Book Initiative is a great fundraising website for schools
and associations. Very similiar to my idea above this website takes away the hard work of producing the cookbook yourself. There’s a parent access area so individuals can log online from their home and input their receipe and photo. There’s guides and FAQ section to assist you and you can try it out for FREE. For more information visit www.thecookbookinitiative.com and to see how well its worked for other schools you can read the testimonials.
